Bending

The first said goodbye by letting go
Just letting it all slide away
I should have seen, I should have known
The price I was to pay

The second said goodbye to his own wife
And I was lost in the maze
Of shattered hearts and a broken life
And a little heart that no longer plays

The third said goodbye in a letter
She said that I wasn’t enough
I believed her, and I didn’t get better
The road she paved was rough

The fourth said goodbye with me in the room
I heard the whole speech to the end
I know that we’ll be alright soon
But I’m not sure my heart can bend

I’m afraid that soon it will stop its bending
            And someday it will break
Some days there seems little use pretending
That I am not a mistake
