17.

You’re more than I hoped
Would ever be mine to hold
Baby please come home

16.

Tiptoeing down halls
Just trying not to wake you
As I run away

15.

Goodbye seems so small
When traded by anyone
Except you and I

14.

Blending and bleeding
Trying to understand all
The ways you killed us

13.

I can’t seem to fight
With this ever-present dark
Help me find a way

12.

The woods enveloped
And swallowed you whole I was
Left calling your name

The Cardiologist's Sea

We sailed our love out, into the ocean
Of life and we fought through the waves
We fought against the thought, against the notion
That we would dig each other’s graves

So when you fell overboard and called for me
To save you from the fate that loomed
I found I could not reach you through the sea
Of water between us, I found we were doomed

The roiling, boiling waves of this world
Took you from me, and I couldn’t save you
I’m sorry, I wanted to - but my sails unfurled
And I was blown far away too

Stay strong, find your way
I hope we meet again someday
I never intended for us to end this way
I hope someday we can both say
That though the waters dark and gray
Pulled us each away
We found a life we needed and wanted
And the love that we shared never left us haunted

11.

You failed to see the
Warning Signs, our ship sunk with
Lifeboats still attached

10.

Drink my words deeply
Believe the lie "I love you"
For lies taste so sweet

9.

Heartbreakingly soft;
Your voice repeats "I loved you"
While I walk away

8.

Find yourself, then come
Back, I'll wait. Just don't forget
What you left behind

7.

Tiny love notes in
Bottles float on the ocean
Our end: words unsaid

6.

We were raised to be
Faithless, lying, cheating people
Please don't be surprised

5.

Carve me from the light
Find my beginnings and breathe
Me in, breathe me out

Rememberings

Remember when the car sped off our lane?
Our tires slipped on a road doused with rain,
And in a little town on the coast of Maine
The world conspired to empty your veins

Sirens wailed and cold light flashed in the night
And pain numbed my head, blurred my failing sight
Yet I called on all I knew that was right
And asked you to try, and asked you to fight

4.

To fail in this game
Is to find myself without
Meaning, comfort, home
