My Center

What does my world revolve
Around? What is at my center?
It’s a puzzle I don’t want to solve
For if I let truth enter

I’ll find at the center of my vast universe
Is the pinprick of a person called me
What a short time from my birth to my hearse
To spend without trying to see

That indulging in my self-pity and pride
And only seeking to reach my own goals
Is like chasing the clouds or trying to ride
On a ship that is peppered with holes

God, give me the strength to break the chains
That have taken this long to forge
Help me open my eyes to a world full of pains
Help me give you the reigns, before my life wanes
Instead of continuing my selfishness to gorge
