Silenced Truth

You flicker and waver like a flame
But if I’m burned you’re not to blame
You warned me to stay so far away
But without you I cannot find my way

You claim you’re the poison without a cure
I say that there’s no such thing as pure
We’re all poor sinners leaning on grace
You lie and say that you need the space

With me close you feel you’re better
Loosed are the chains – gone the fetters
But when you leave you truly fear
Your one chance at love will disappear

So you leave and wish on that second star
Hoping things are better when you’re far
Where you can’t hurt me, where you can’t be
A taint in the beauty of my being free

(If only you knew how much I long for you. If only you knew that I knew. If only you saw that your stains and sins don’t subtract from my love for you.)
